Prior to this assignment, I had already used CSUN's Oviatt Library's database to research some articles for other classes, so I already had an idea of what I was doing. The first thing I did was search "CSUN Oviatt Library." When I was on the home page I clicked on "Database by Subject," which directed to me to their databases and I clicked on "General Muti-Subject" which is located on the left side of the page under "Search general information sources." Once I did that, I was directed somewhere else where I selected the Academic Search Premier (EBSCO) database. This was my first time using this specific database. I thought I would try something different so that I could learn how to use multiple databases. Once I clicked on it, I typed "Star Wars" and got 6,012 search results. To limit my search results, I selected "Academic Journals" which decreased my search results to 383. As I scrolled through the results, I came across some articles that looked intriguing by their title, but I did not find the right article till I hit the bottom of page 3. I found an article entitled "Star Wars: A Myth for Our Time," it discussed about the impact that Star Wars has had on our culture. In the article, Andrew Gordon discusses how Star Wars has gotten people to believe in heroes in a time in which "Americans have lost heroes in whom to believe" (315). He compares Star Wars to The Wizard of Oz and comments on how Star Wars is "this generations Wizard of Oz" (Gordon, 314). So when people comment on Star Wars, they are also commenting on The Wizard of Oz. He also states that Star Wars has a lot to do with culture. He uses evidence such as direct quotes and examples to support his argument that Star Wars is "A Myth for Our Time." He is successful in making his argument clear and supporting it.

My choice of store I decided to go to to examine Star Wars merchandise was Kohl's. I made my way throughout the majority of the store and came across a ton of Star Wars merchandise, more than I expected to see. Some of the items that I came across were socks, wallets, beanies, masks, toys, and candies. I did not see anyone wearing any Star Wars apparel, although I wish I would have because it would be interesting to see what people like. The strangest item I saw were Star Wars jellybeans. The first thing I thought to myself when I saw them was "why would they make Star Wars jellybeans?" The actual jellybeans were not shaped like any Star Wars characters or anything which is also strange. Like at least make the jellybeans cool by actually relating them to Star Wars and not just through the packaging. This item was not marked to a specif group or gender, but some items like the toys were marked to a specific age group but not gender. Besides the toys, all the other items I saw I felt like they could be for anyone of any age and gender which is beneficial because that means that their products are directed to anyone which means more sales. Having to go into a store and examine Star Wars items for this assignment was actually pretty fun and interesting because I went to solemnly observe Star Wars merchandise, and prior to this I had never done that before.
The game that I chose to play was Angry Birds Star Wars ll. I have played the original Angry Birds game, but I have to admit that this version of the game is as good if not better than the original one. I think the whole idea of making an Angry Birds look like a Star Wars characters is not only unique, but also pretty cool. The fact that Star Wars is a part of the game makes the experience even more enjoyable. Playing the game added to my Star Wars knowledge by introducing me to some knew Star Wars characters that I didn't about prior to playing the game. I was familiar with some, but not all of the character. Some of the new characters I was introduced to were Agent Kallus, The Inquisitor, Shocktrooper, Red Battle Droid, Biker Scout, Boba Fett...etc. Some of the characters that I recognized were Yoda, Chewbacca, Princess Lei, R2-D2, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, stormtrooper, Han Solo, and Jabba the Hutt. The game used the same Star Wars characters in some instances, but their occupation was changed. For example Luke Skywalker is portrayed in the game as a pilot and an endor. I enjoyed playing this game and learning new things about Star Wars.
Star Wars has impacted many films including Blue Harvest. Family Guy's episode one of season six, Blue Harvest tells the story of Star Wars through Peter's eyes. The film is a parody of the Star Wars films, in particular the first Star Wars film A New Hope. The characters of Family Guy pay the roles of Star Wars characters. The story starts with a similar opening crawl as that of the Star Wars films, "A long time ago…" The Star Wars films have impacted the Blue Harvest film by changing the way the film looks, sounds, and is viewed. Blue Harvest's main setting is in space which is something new for Family Guy as the other episodes do not take place in space, leading everyone involved in the film and those working behind it to adventure new ideas and techniques. The people who viewed this specific episode of Family Guy were most likely Star Wars fans or new about Star Wars. One way or the other, these viewers have created their own perspective on the films. Many might have watched this Family Guy episode with certain expectations that the film either surpassed or not. The jokes made in the film do not seem too hurtful to the franchise. The majority of the jokes seem to have a sexual meaning behind them, but that is pretty common in the Family Guy episodes. There is a scene in Blue Harvest where a lightsaber is used to keep flies away, so whenever a fly comes near it it shocks them. There is another scene where Luke saves Lei and they both offend each other for their appearance and commentary, but for the most part the jokes are more funny rather than praising or hurtful. Curiosity Killed the Cat: The Alien's Tale by Jennifer Pulido Maz Kanata's castle was at its full capacity. Everywhere you turned you would see humans and species of all kinds.
Just another ordinary day, nothing peculiar about today I thought to myself. What were the odds that today in particular my life would end. I had been hired to perform at Maz Kanat's castle along with Taybin Ralorsa, Ubert Quaril, and Sudswater Dillifay. I played the hypolliope horn cluster. Just when we happened to be in the middle of our song, Han Solo barges in through the door and interrupted our performance. He was infuriated that I was able to envision his face turning red and steam coming out of his ears. At that moment the band had completely stopped playing. Everyone knew Han Solo and his clever actions to get what he wanted. Today, he made this very clear. Who would have guessed that the reason for Han Solo's visit was to charge Kanata for the service he did a while back. As I looked to the back, Solo and Kanata were walking to a room. I didn't waist any time and covered up with my cape to avoid gaining attention to myself and proceeded to the back. I stood outside by the door and a window where I was able to hear and see what was going on. "I don't have money to pay you right now." Solo stood up and made his way over to a treasure box where he pulled out what looked like a stone. A bright oddly shaped stone. It was sized differently from your typical little stones. "I know what I want in return Kanata. Your talisman will do me good." Solo knew how powerful it was, powerful enought to kill someone. As I was about to head back tot he stage I turned and my cape knocked over a vase. "Who's there?" Solo came running out and struck Infrablue Zedbeddy Coggins with the talisman right on his chest. He turned to dust and a terrible smell filled the air. Everyone was silent once again but the silence didn't last more than thirty seconds and everyone continued their ruckus. Best Star Wars Film The best film in the Star Wars series is The Force Awakens. It has a rating of 8.2/10 on IMDb. In this film we see women having a far more dominant role. We are used to seeing men play the role of the protagonist most of the time, but in this film the protagonist is a female. Rey is depicted as smart, curious, and brave. Another reason why The Force Awakens is the best film is because it brings back some of the old characters from the film A New Hope but with a different plot. The plot is interesting and therefor engaging. The Force Awakens has attracted a new generation of audience as well as fans from the original trilogy. In this film we see a difference in Kylo Ren's lightsaber from other lightsabers in the whole Star Wars series. His lightsaber is different because the hilt has a cross guard. This change created chaos but also doubt and questions which rose the attention to the film. Worst Star Wars Film
The Phantom Menace is the worst Star Wars film. The film's plot is confusing; it jumps from here and there. In order to be able to understand something it must be made clear and visible to comprehend so that one doesn't struggle to try and figure out what it is that the film is portraying or focusing on. Aside from that the film also has problem with the characters. The focus is not on any one character therefor there isn't really a protagonist. 1. The emotions that I share with this emblem are blissful and harmonious. The background gives it a peaceful vibe. 2. I see the spikes as a gate which protects the inner part of the emblem. As the spikes get further in the emblem they become thicker and darker and form a circle at the center of it, which might represent the group and it's leaders. I see the outer layer where the circle begins to split and ends with a pointy edge to represent the followers because from where it starts it expands, also representing how the group expands over time. The very center would represent the leader. 3. If a group of people adopted this emblem I would imagine their goals to be to restore peace and to get people to partake in this. 4. I would associate the colors yellow and orange to this emblem. I would place the yellow on the spikes in he background because it resembles the sun and orange for the inner part because it can represent the core of the sun which is the more intensified part. 1. The emotions that I associate with this emblem are non-controlling and equality. For the most part the way this emblem is set up it looks as if the different elements are symmetrical, hence the idea of equality. 2. I think the outer part represents the people, given the idea that they are all equal and the lines are all the same length and thickness. The inner part represents their ideas that evolve into a big idea which is represented by the circle in the middle of the emblem. 3. If a group of people adopted this emblem, I would imagine they would focus on the security of their members because their task is to be unified and protect one another against other groups. I get this form the outermost later which locks in the emblem. 4. The colors that I would associate this emblem with are dark blue for the center and light blue for the outside because the colors associate with stability.
3. I think that the goals of this group of people would be to restore peace and spread goodness because wings usually signify that good is involved. 4. For this emblem I would associate the colors light blue for the wings and yellow to represent the bright future that awaits them. 1/2. The emotions that I share with this emblem are defeat and controlling. Unlike emblem "B" this one looks more more locked in and the elements actually and connect whereas in emblem "B" it was the opposite, which is why I feel like this emblem is the opposite of that one. The center looks like a wheel which also gives me the idea that the group might have been large and powerful. 3. If a group of people adopted this emblem, I would imagine their goals to be to gain control of others and demonstrate their position as higher ranking. 4. The colors that would best fit this emblem are red for the center and black for the outer part. These colors would represent the more evil side. 1/2. I associate superiority with this emblem. The middle could represent the main leader and who is in that position because he is stands high above everyone else. This element develops into one as a whole, where the outer part represents the followers of this group but are still not at the same level as the leader. The size of this element shows how the group also developed. 3. I imagine that if a group of people adapted this emblem their objective would be to receive guidance from the main leader and use it to later guide others. 4. I would place the color gold in the center of the emblem to show superiority of the godhead and the red for the outer part to represent the followers since they are the ones who make the leader powerful. 1. When I first saw the hilt it reminded me of a cross. The blades on each side looked like wings which made me wonder what they were for and why Kylo Ren's lightsaber is the only one with a hilt of that sort.
2. The hilt has a crossguard which makes it look like a cross. These blades light up like flames when the lightsaber is turned on. The hilt also has wires that are exposed on the outside. Some wires are red and others blue. The screws are also visible from the outside. 3/4. The design reveals that Kylo Ren was not a great builder considering that all the wires were on the outside rather than on the inside, unless that is what he was purposely aiming for. By adding the two blades, one on each side of the hilt, Kylo showed intelligence because the blades could serve him for protection to prevent him from getting his hands cut. The crossguard does not allow a direct hit because the blades protect his hands. 1. Kylo Ren's hilt has a crossguard which makes his design different from others. It is also a bit bigger in size than others. Not only that but his lightsaber was built based on an ancient design. 2. I think Kylo Ren’s is so different because his intention was to “stand out” or look “superior”. It might have been a way for him to get an ancient force of some kind. Although I have heard about Star Wars I do not know a whole lot about it. I have come across Star Wars merchandise in some occasions while shopping and others when I have gone to amusement parks, which is how I know two Star Wars characters: Dark Vader and Yoda. I have also heard the words "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" which after doing some research I discovered that these words appear in every Star Wars film because it is the opening crawl for every Star Wars film. Up to this day I have never watched a Star Wars film which is why I have not idea of what the films are about, but I imagine that they are about a hero's journey and their call to adventure. Star Wars has never fully caught my attention but I am open to learn more about it and I look forward to expand my knowledge on it.
